The world stands at a crossroads.

Post pandemic we continue to face unprecedented personal, local and global challenges – environmental crisis, wellbeing, mental health, economic, fraying of social bonds and community values – the need to rethink our approach has never been clearer.

But there is a big problem within the word “rethink” as many global leaders in every industry create, innovate and drive forwards with technology.  Thinking cannot only serve profits, but also translate into the emotions of people, which in turn refuels thinking.  Yet, there are may different agendas, with no clear route forward.

Encouraging companies to pursue the triple bottom line: People, Planet and Profit suggests long term value can be gained by increasing profit.  This seems a valid argument.  But profit can only be driven by people who are happy and healthy, doing the right work at the right time.

Other people are focused on tackling climate change and environmental degradation which requires substantial investment from both public and private funding.

Each approach is essential and have critical roles to play.  But the stand-alone “silo approach” from large corporations and governments seem impossible, without conscious responsibility at grassroots, individual level.

Reimagining A Thriving Future

Whilst governments and large organisations deliver plans for far-reaching and costly concepts, it seems to me the fundamental human foundation is often ignored, at best rarely discussed.  The fundamentals of creating a thriving future for all rests on inner work.

Inner work remains sidelined by many, yet is the most transformative.  When the inner work meets the outer work progress of change is real and lasting.

Inner work is simple, yet powerful.  This is perhaps the reason why many people choose to ignore it because they are of the cultural belief that change is hard.

Every change within our world, is dependent upon the clarity and focus and conscious choices of every single person involved in the process of change.

Echoing across the boardrooms are familiar phrases of “let’s be clear about this” and “it’s time to focus”, but very few people have ever been taught to focus – yet they have been told to focus many times.  In the absence of inner work, it is flawed to think that we can make sustainable choices.

The ripple effect is powerful.

One by one, we can become beacons of hope, collaboration and peace.  We can re-ignite the spark, creating the positive flame of transformation known and understood by our ancestors and the most profound.  With shared responsibility, we can re-shape what is right, equitable and sustainable as we envision a thriving future.
